LIGHTING IS NO LONGER A COMPLEMENTARY ELEMENT. IT IS PROJECT INFRASTRUCTURE

In this first episode, we sit down with Enrique Buitrago, Sales Manager Iberia at Occhio, and Víctor Periañez, Founder & Managing Director of Illusion — two professionals with different backgrounds but a shared conviction: light must be considered from the very beginning and integrated as a structural part of architecture.

Occhio, the German premium lighting brand with a strong international presence, has built its identity around three clear pillars: quality of light, quality of design, and joy of use. This last concept — referring to the intuitive and pleasurable experience of interacting with light — directly reflects the evolution of today’s client expectations.

“Occhio does not decorate with luminaires; rather than decorating, it designs with light,” explains Enrique Buitrago, highlighting how lighting quality has the power to enhance architecture rather than simply accompany it. From the same perspective, he adds, “A great architectural project can be compromised if the lighting is not properly designed,” underscoring the strategic weight of lighting in high-end residential projects.

In the premium segment, value no longer lies solely in iconic design or material selection. It lies in overall coherence and in the ability to adapt spaces to the user’s lifestyle.

 

THE NEW STANDARD OF LUXURY IS COHERENT PERSONALISATION

During the conversation, Víctor Periañez reflects on how the residential and real estate sectors can learn from the hospitality industry in terms of user experience — incorporating predefined scenes and intuitive systems that simplify interaction. When technology is properly conceived, it disappears, giving way to a seamless experience.

“The possibility of having a unique space, designed by and for you — a place where you can express your way of living and being — is fundamental in the segment we operate in,” says Víctor Periañez, emphasising the role of personalisation as a defining factor in the high-end market.
